A delegation led by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the United States on Thursday to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly began on Tuesday, September 13th, and will end on September 27th. World leaders will discuss reducing poverty and instability, improving education, creating jobs for youth, finding solutions to natural disasters, and the rights of marginalized people.

President Mohamud is expected to address the UN General Assembly on Somalia’s plan to fight against poverty and terrorism.

Mohamud will meet US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Thursday at the Pentagon before travelling to New York.

The President’s trip comes a day after the regional humanitarian ministers have accused the central government of failing to release $9.6 million in relief funds from the UAE to begin humanitarian operations in the country.

The famine is expected in parts of Somalia between October and December this year.
