Somali Gorgor (Eagle) commandos, trained by the Turkish Armed Forces, and the Danab Special Forces, trained by the US Africa Command, carried out a joint operation in Gal’ad, a recently liberated district in the Galgadud region on Wednesday.
Government officials have reported that the Somali elite forces successfully destroyed al-Shabaab bases in the areas of El Ali, Afrah, El Timir, and Towfiq, all of which are located within the Gal’ad district.
Commander Abdiwali Ahmed Hussein, leading the 9th unit of the Eagle commandos, stated that the army is currently engaged in ongoing operations against al-Shabaab in Gal’ad and its surrounding areas.
Galcad district, situated in the Galgaduud region, is among the final areas to be liberated by the Somali government from al-Shabaab control. The district has faced numerous attacks by the al-Shabaab group.
