Somali Foreign Minister attends UN General Assembly opening session in New York

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abshir Omar Jama, attended the opening ceremony of the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday.

At the assembly, representatives will discuss food insecurity, high energy prices, global supply chain disruptions, unemployment, women’s empowerment, climate change and education.

The meetings will continue between September 19-25 under the theme of the session, “Solutions through Solidarity, Sustainability and Science.”

The Somali delegation participating in the UN General Assembly will hold sideline meetings with several heads of state and foreign ministers, and representatives from international and regional organizations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meetings would focus on consolidating Somalia’s relationship with international partners and organizations.
